About Us

UFS is a registered, independent trade union, established in 1988 with it's headquarters in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

We are a non-profit-making organisation, and are not affiliated to the TUC or to any political party. This means that all of our income goes towards providing the best professional service to our members.

Our members come from many different employment sectors and we have partnership agreements with some of the UK's major employers.

We believe that a constructive relationship with the companies employing union members is the best way to ensure the profitability of the business, and thus job satisfaction and job security for our members.

UFS Core Values

  • We are approachable
  • We provide professional support
  • We are experts in our field
  • We give confidential advice
  • We act on members instruction

UFS Mission Statement

We aim to be the most professional, effective and supportive union in the UK and, most importantly that our members remain at the core of everything we do.

We aim to facilitate good relations between our members and their employers, to further our members’ employment interests and support individual members in all matters connected to their employment.

Our Structure

As a union, UFS is a democratic organisation that is organised into geographic regions, and is controlled by a National Executive Committee (NEC), elected by UFS members from the regions.

NEC members are not employed by UFS except the position of General Secretary, which, as well as being an employed position, is also an elected NEC seat.

There is also a central team of staff and officials, based at our Head Office in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Whist they are your legal advisors in the workplace UFS staff cannot act on behalf it’s members without having gained instruction from them either directly or via the NEC (National Executive Committee).

Our structure is governed by the UFS rules, which are in effect our constitution.

Read our Terms and Conditions.
